Working as a vet I have seen everything.......I've also had my share of clients that have, well, to say a few screws loose is an understatement. Everyone gets that our gig is hard. Long hours, little reward, and for little monetary return.
I have noticed that in referral work the gig is harder.......Often because all of, let's say, societies challenged get to congregate on our doorsteps.......
I sometimes wonder if these people behave this way in society..????? I think to watch a client that tries to rant and rave at one of our receptionists or better still, talks down to them or even better, gets there and says we do not do a good job or are not good at what we do really needs to take a look at themselves and have some self analysis time........
We all get that the job is not nine to five. But you know, there must be some down time for us. A place or a time that we can just switch off and not think about work........I thought about a number of ways we can do this, from voodoo dolls of the most challenged, just for light relief, to sumo suits so that we can beat the living shit out of each other, because sometimes it just feels like you are beating your head against a brick wall........
We are vets, vet nurses and receptionists and we do care. That's why I became a vet. But vet does not define who I am personally. I also like to play pool and drink, but that doesn't make me Paul Newman in "The Hustler"......
I think at the end of the day vet science is something that i feel very strongly about and I will do it until I retire. But I think there has to be a line to all that says "Please, show some respect ! I am good at what I do. I didn't create your animals problem and if you let me I will fix the problem. And for god's sake if you see me in public let me have my down time.....!!!!!"
